Working hard everyday, and knowing what it is like to have others depend on you. Mauro embodies what a true Statesman should be.
Mauro Garza, a Texas District 21 resident for 27 years, has lived in San Antonio, Texas (Olmos Park) since 1990. Mauro accepted a position with the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (TCADA) in Austin, Texas in 1991, that allowed him to better serve the people of Texas. The daily commute to Austin, Texas while residing in San Antonio gave Mauro a sense of pride and an added impetus to serve the region and Texas. While working full-time he maintained academic endeavors with evening and weekend research studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he completed his Master of Science degree with an emphasis in Neurophysiology in 1992, under a Biomedical Research Scholarship.
After obtaining his Graduate degree, he started teaching evening classes as an Adjunct Faculty member for the Alamo Colleges District (ACD). He taught Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition and Environmental Science. He stayed with ACD for 10 years while working with TCADA and as he transitioned into his next position at Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research (SFBR) in San Antonio, Texas.
In 1997, he accepted the Director of Grants and Contracts Management position at SFBR, presently known as Texas Biomedical Research Institute (TBRI). He was honored the privilege to be a key player of an administrative/budgetary team that was instrumental in establishing the Southwest Primate Research Center. Among its many contributions, TBRI (formerly SFBR) played a major role decoding the human genome as part of the Human Genome Project.
In 2002, Mauro embarked on his entrepreneurial professions by founding M. Garza Enterprises, Inc. (MGEI) and in 2010, founded Everett Holdings, LLC.
“I seek to continue my service to the great people of Texas by running for the U.S. House of Representatives Seat for the 21st District of Texas. My vision is to ensure the people continue to have a voice that does not fall on deaf ears.”
